| GENERAL INFORMATION: Accordionists from all countries are welcome to enter this International Entertainment Competition. It is for acoustic solo accordion only - either piano accordions or chromatic accordions. No electronics, amplification or microphones are permitted. There is no age limit. In addition to musicianship and a varied, entertaining program, contestants will be judged on basis of originality, professionalism and stage presence. Specific requirements are listed below. | |
| ENTRY
INFORMATION: The American
Accordionists Association must receive entry form accompanied by a non-refundable
entry fee of US $65 no later than May 31, 2005. Payment must be in US Dollars
(check drawn on a US bank), or with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). There
is an entry form on the reverse side of this circular. Additional forms can be
found at the AAA website: http://www.ameraccord.com or may be requested from the
AAA Executive Office, address below. Entries are subject to acceptance by the
Executive Committee. In the case of non-acceptance, the applicant will be advised
in writing of the reason(s) for refusal and, if early enough, will have an opportunity
to remedy the problem. Non-payment of fees by the entrant will constitute reason
for non-acceptance. Registration and selection of playing position will take place on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 4:00 PM in the Marquis Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel adjacent to the AAA Registration Desk on Level 2. The competition will take place Thursday evening, July 7, 2005, at 6:00 PM and may continue on to another day if the number of entries necessitates additional time. | |

MUSIC REQUIREMENTS: Contestants
are required to play their own choice program consisting of at least four different
compositions. Each selection should exemplify a different musical style, character
and mood, such as Pop, Jazz, Latin, Blues, Cajun, Zydeco, Musette, Folk, etc.
(Classical music is not acceptable in this entertainment category.). A minimum
of 12 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes playing time is required, excluding
breaks and/or brief pauses in the program. If contestant chooses to make announcements,
they must be brief. A copy of each piece of music, or a lead sheet, must be submitted with the entry form. Printed music is required on published works; photocopies may be used only if the music is out of print and manuscript form will be accepted for unpublished, original compositions. NOTE: Depending upon the number of participants, the highest scoring contestants may be required to repeat their program in a playoff. | |
| GENERAL
INFORMATION: Suitable ability and compliance with the rules are required
for prizes. Contestants will be scored on basis of a 100-point maximum. No monetary
prizes will be awarded to a candidate who scores below 90 points for first place,
85 points for second place and 80 points for third place. Judging will be done by a panel of qualified musicians and/or people within the entertainment field. Rule infractions will result in point penalties and possible disqualification. The decisions of the judges shall be final in all cases. | |
